What is Internet Marketing
Broadly defined, Internet Marketing is the use of the Internet and its related technologies to identify target customers, promote and sell products, and in some cases, deliver the products electronically. These include means such as e-mail campaign, pay-per-click ads, online press releases, banner advertising, online surveys, search engine marketing, etc.

History of Internet Marketing
Search the Web and you will find a fairly consistent history of the Internet and the Worldwide Web. What about history of Internet Marketing?
Some claim it all started with Netscape. It revolutionalized the way people use the Internet. But as early as 10 years ago, there were only a handful of Net entrepreneurs seeriously using the Internet as their sole or main medium. Although there were already a lot of website, they were mostly brochureware.
Internet Marketing in the early 1990s was equated with banner advertising. The first web banner appeared on October 25, 1994 in the HotWired site. It was a 468 x 60 banner by AT & T. Since then, every major website had blinking banners and pop-ups that irritated the visitors.
Now the most popular and some say the most powerful form of Internet Marketing is pay-per-click advertising, now dominated by Google Adwords, which was launched by Google in October 2000.
Although Google is now the leader in PPC, it is interesting to note that PPC was actually started by another company, Overture (acquired by Yahoo in Ocotber 2003 and is now called Search Marketing). In Feb '98, Jeffrey Brewer of Goto.com (which later became Overture) presented a PPC search engine proof-of-concept to the TED8 conference in California.
Now there are many ways to market in the Internet as new concepts and new products come out. Current Net buzzwords MySpace and YouTube are also being used by some savvy marketers as a marketing tool.
The history is unfolding before your eyes. There is no better time to join and watch history unfolds, with you playing a part.
