Increasingly, marketers are starting to make use of social networking sites, most notably MySpace to drive traffic to their site.
MySpace is similar to discussion groups. You can join groups and contribute your two cents' worth and see whether you can build enough interest for people to visit your site.

Make sure your observe the Group Rules
Social networking purists are understandably not receptive to the idea of people overtly or even subtly selling their stuff in these sites. In fact, some groups specifically state the NO SELLING, NO POSTING OF ADVERTISING. Like discussion groups, a user who violates this rule faces "scolding" from the group leader or members.

If you are keen to try social networking, visit MySpace, and create an account. Here are 2 ways you can use MySpace to promote your business.
1. Set up a personal profile that includes a link to your business. You can also start a blog page and write articles that you think your target market would be interested in. Let's say you have a site on organic healthcare products, you can start a blog where you describe daily organic diet plan and some organic beauty secrets. If your articles generate enough interest, you may be able to generate traffic without doing a hard sell.
2. Join a group. There are thousands of groups in MySpace; there is bound to be one that would interest you. There are different categories to choose from: from activities, automotive, family, home, etc. Each category has its own groups. Each group has its own members. The most popular Business and Entrepreneur Group has about 40,000 members.
Go through each of the group and see which one appeal to you. Some groups allow members to post ads as long as you do not spam. Some are strictly for non-business discussions.
3. Make friends. Social networking sites are popular because people get to meet other like-minded people. Join the network to meet friends and set aside you business concern for a while. Once you've made friends in the network, you have created allies in your business who would probably recommend you to their own set of friends.
More networking sites soon.
