The first step:  Submit your site

This is one of the very first things that you should do once your site is uploaded.

If you are a new to Internet Marketing, you might be surprised to know that there are hundreds of search engines on the Internet.

However, you shouldn't bother much if you are unable to find these  sites. After all, there are only three search engines that really matter: Google, Yahoo and MSN.

If you can find the time, submit to as many search engines as you can find. After all, each one is a possible avenue for your site.

How to have your site included in the search engines

There are basically three ways to have an Internet presence through the search engines:

1.  Submit your site

Submitting a site is a straightforward process. Simply locate the search engine, click on the Submit URL and fill in the required information.

You can begin by submitting to these sites. When you click on the link, you will be directed to the Submit URL page:

Major Search Engines:

Google

Yahoo

MSN

MSN Live Search

The seach engines listed below do not have add URL form in their sites because their results are powered by the major engines.

All the Web - powered by Yahoo!

Ask Jeeves - powered by Teoma

AOL - powered by Google

Altavista - powered by Yahoo

Netscape Search - powered by Google

Lycos - powered by Yahoo

Submit to 50,000 search engines for 19.95!!!???

You will undoubtedly encounter all these ads, spam or unsolicited mail.

These services use robots to submit the URL.  Major search engines discourage the use of robots and sometimes ban URLs that repeatedly use robots to submit. There are also sites that have "screens"  that only humans can read and thus, rendering the robots useless.

It takes time but it is still best to do your submission manually. If you do not have the time, there are SEO companies who will submit manually for you.

2.  Let the crawlers find you.

Major search engines use crawlers to search the Web for new material. Once you upload your site, it will be found.  Crawlers also search directories so it is also a good idea to submit to the directories so the search engines can find you faster.

3.  Pay to have your site included.

There are a number of sites that only accept paid inclusions.  The difference between paid inclusion and free submission is that the paid one results in almost instantaneous listing, some within 24 hours.  Another advantage of paid inclusion is that your site gets spidered very often, sometimes as often as every 48 hours.

If you choose this option, make sure that you are paying for good value:meaning it is a reputable. reliable engine with very decent traffic.  Otherwise, what's the point of being listed immediately if only a few people visit the site to search.
